Frequently Asked Questions
-
A floating sauna is a sauna that is built to float on water. Inspired by Nordic sauna culture it combines the heat and ritual of a traditional dry sauna, with the unique element of being dockside - allowing guests to alternate sauna rounds with easy access to a natural cold plunge in the lake.
Kiln is Lake Michigan’s first floating sauna operating seasonally in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin, and Chicago, Illinois.
-
When guests arrive at Kiln they will be greeted and checked in by one of our sauna hosts.
Hosts will direct guests to our changing space and locker area before giving a brief intro to best practices in the sauna.
Our sauna ranges in temperature from 185-194°F. Guests are welcome to rest on the deck of Kiln between rounds, or cold plunge directly into Lake Michigan.
Throughout the session our hosts will remain available to answer questions and provide aromatherapy.
Booties and gloves are available for comfort during cold plunges, and electrolytes are offered for hydration between rounds.
-
Please arrive with a bathing suit, full reusable water bottle, two towels (one for the sauna, one for drying off), slides or flip flops, and comfortable clothes to change into afterward.
A quick comfort tip: wearing your swimsuit under your clothes makes arrival and changing a lot easier. After a session, jeans or leggings can be tricky to get back on, so plan your post-sauna outfit with that in mind.We cannot offer water refills on board, so please arrive with a full water bottle.
Towels are available for purchase, but we strongly recommend bringing your own.
